Basco - Trying To Adopt

Personality: he is very energetic and loving but it takes a bit for him to trust you . He’s very quiet most of the time. He doesn’t like being locked up inside. He likes to get out and do things .

Back story : He was born in a litter of 10 pups. The family that owned his mom didn’t hate that she had puppies but still didn’t want then . The family eventually put up a sign saying “ free puppies to good home “ Lots of people came to see the puppies and one by one his brothers and sisters were all adopted except him . The family ended up not wanting to keep him, so at 9 weeks old he was dumped at the pound . Being a puppy he was adopted quickly . But the family couldn’t cope with his pent up energy . He was then sent back to the pound. By the end he started to lose trust in people not believing he would ever find a real home . Up until he was 1 he was adopted and sent back far more times than he can even begin to remember . A little bit after he turned one the pound he was at was hosting a charity event to raise money and to help some of there dogs and cats get adopted . The event was lively and fun. There were many dogs. There were also some fun games going on like agility and obedience, even flyball . Also at this event there were panels set up for people that were giving awareness about certain breeds or issues. One such panel was that of Damien Doon and is sister Sam they own a few pit bulls and were there with them teaching people that they are not killers like everyone hears on the news. Damien demonstrated both obedience and agility with his dogs .

Around lunch Damien and Sam took a break and decided to look at the dogs up for adoption . The 2 of them actually live on a huge ranch with many horses and cattle and many other farm animals the dogs are only a part of what they do . They began looking at the dogs they didn’t think they needed another dog but they couldn’t resist. Maybe they could find a nice family dog mostly for the younger brother and there mom .

As they were looking at some of the other puppy’s Damien caught a glimpse of something in the corner of his eye he went over to the cage and read the tag that was there. It read “ 1 year old male hard to place “ Damien tried to get the young pups attention but all the pup did was lay at the back of his cage . Damien found one of the pound volunteers and started asking questions about the young pup hearing his story he felt sorry for the pup , he talked it over with his sister and they decided to take the pup home to see if they could give him the home he needed . The pup almost seemed unwilling to go like he knew he was just going to end up back at the pound . All the staff were hoping this was the right home for him .

The drive was long to the pup it felt like an eternity . Then a strange smell was in the air strange but fascinating . When the car stopped the pup looked out the window and saw what looked like endless fences and fields . There was no cement or asphalt here at all. To him for some reason he felt safe here . When he was let out of the car he was introduced to the other dogs 2 nice little female pit bulls and 1 male at first he was nervous of the male but then realized he was no threat at all. He was very calm and collected. The pup now looked at him like an older brother . “

Now a name ,... Basco ‘ Damien said . The pup liked the name Basco . His first day there Basco spent most of it in the house. To everyone’s surprise Basco was nervous he felt to at home here he didn’t want to mess anything up but he had so much energy that he was beginning to get frustrated .Damien noticed and called Basco to come outside with him “ I think its time to introduce you to the rest of the family “ Damien said as he put a collar and leash one him .

Basco didn’t know why he was on a leash but it didn’t bother him as Damien lead him to one of the giant buildings he could smell something he didn’t know what it was. As they reached the far end of the building Basco noticed Sam there “ you ready Sam “ Damien yelled “ ‘yep” she replied “ its time for you to see the herd “ Damien smiled as he said this and gave a nod to Sam . Sam opened the large doors to the building as Basco herd a loud stampeding sound as these large animals ran from the building into one of the fields . These were some of the horses Damien’s family raised .

Basco was so excited he wanted to run with them but it was his energy that got him kicked out before so he stopped his excitement. “come on boy I’ll show you something and well maybe you can show me something to “ Damien said Basco was confused but he followed him to another field at the far end of the field there was a large group of something . “ ok boy I want to see if you can bring me all those cows so see if you can move them down here. oh one rule you cant bite them. “ Damien said as he took the collar off of Basco .

Basco looked at him and then turned to the cows he slipped though a gap in the fence and began running to the cows all of a sudden a strange feeling came over him and for some reason he knew exactly what to do. he picked up pace as he ran around the edge of the herd barking. The cows began to run and Basco herded them right back to Damien like he had done it a hundred timed before. He loved it this is what his energy and stamina were for this is what he was meant to do . Basco returned to Damien side. Damien reached a hand out to pet him and said “ looks like we have ourselves a herding dog “. Basco loves what he does and has now finally found a home .


Plans For Use: me and ~iluvwrath have some stables that we are doing and I have been in desperate need of a herding type dog and when I saw the collie mix I new he could be the one.

Sorry for the really long back story. I don’t usually write this much, but felt very inspired by his design while I was working on him.
